What’s Public (and What’s Not) About Physicians

Our Physician Register lets you easily find information about physicians registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), as well as some former physicians who are no longer registered.

The Physician Register is maintained by CPSO and is updated when we are made aware of new information.

The Register contains basic information about a physician, such as their:

  • Name and languages spoken.
  • Business contact information.
  • Specialty area (e.g., internal medicine) and/or sub-specialty designation (e.g., cardiology).

The Register also provides information about where the physician practices, including:

  • The names of the hospitals in Ontario where the physician can practice.
  • Whether the physician is registered or licensed to practice outside of Ontario, where this is known.
  • Whether the physician is registered to practise in other health or non-health profession, where this is known.

Finally, the Register will tell you the status of the physician’s registration with CPSO. In some cases, a physician’s registration may be restricted, suspended, or revoked, and this will be reflected on the Register. In the limited circumstances where it applies, the Register will also note allegations or findings of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity, as well as criminal charges, release conditions, guilty findings, and findings from certain civil court proceedings.

The Register does not include information on:

  • Whether the physician is accepting new patients.
  • The physician’s personal email address or birthdate.
  • Whether the physician performs a particular procedure.
  • The facts of an ongoing investigation or an investigation’s outcome where no or low-risk concerns were found.
  • We may decide not to post (or to no longer post) information that we consider obsolete or no longer relevant to the physician’s suitability to practise, according to our guiding principles.
