Physician Advisory Service
Physician Advisory Service (PAS) provides guidance and information to members.
Thousands of physicians contact us each year with questions about their practice. We often receive inquiries about:
- General practice issues;
- Assistance in managing challenging situations;
- Clarification of CPSO policies or government legislation; and
- Annual renewal, including clarification and/or guidance about specific questions, and help with various technical questions or issues.
We document all calls, but most do not require any further action. However, if you are expressing concerns about a potential patient safety risk, such as clinical incompetence or incapacity of a member, we may have an obligation to investigate. In this scenario, we inform you we may need to escalate the issue to our investigations department and give you the opportunity to continue the discussion with an investigator. Even if you decide not to give us the physician’s name, we will provide guidance and information — but please remember every physician has an ethical and/or mandatory obligation to report risks to patient safety to the College.
